Spring break can feel repetitive and boring without travel, but it can also be the perfect time to take advantage of Marin County and Northern California’s endless adventuring opportunities. Staying local doesn’t have to mean staying dormant; with a little creativity, you can turn a slow week into something memorable. This is the perfectly crafted list to count on for a spring day with no plans.
No. 1: Paddleboarding
One of the best ways to soak up the sun on a warm day is to get out on the water. Paddleboarding in the bay with friends or family is a fun way to enjoy Marin while also cooling off with a swim. You can find public docks in Tiburon and in Greenbrae. Whether you’re just paddling along the shoreline or jumping in the water, it’s a great way to spend a spring break day outside.
No. 2: Mastering the art of spikeball
There is nothing more impressive than having elite spikeball skills and being able to show them off on the baseball field during spring. Spring break is the perfect time to perfect these skills. Get a net and three friends, go to Robson Harrington Park, and practice until your back is completely sunburnt.
No. 3: Exploring a new beach
Stinson is great…we can all agree, but how about a change? Baker Beach is a short drive over the bridge and has an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge. You can enjoy the sun, waves, and scenery all at once. If Baker Beach isn’t your thing, check out Muir Beach. The pebbly sand and mountainous surroundings give the beach a totally different feel while still keeping that classic beach-day vibe.
No. 4: Day trip to Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay is just over an hour and a half away, and Santa Cruz is two hours away. If you have a car, you can easily make a day trip to both of these destinations. Or, spruce up the day trip and find a camping destination. Spend the night out in a tent or in your car camping, and explore what California has to offer outside of Marin.
No. 5: Bolinas Ridge Crest
Marin’s biggest staple is sunset at the ridge. One may argue it’s overdone, but the Bolinas Ridge Crest is a place like nowhere else in the world. You get the opportunity to admire the rolling hills and the ocean in one view. Pairing it with an In-N-Out burger afterwards is “chef’s kiss.”
