On Thursday, April 4, the second-seed Archie Williams boys varsity volleyball team eased past the eleventh-seed San Marin Mustangs at the Falcons’ nest in three sets. The Falcons’ senior day secured their 14-7 record, featuring minutes from all of the team’s seniors and ending with a heartfelt speech by junior Zach Wulff.

The Falcons commanded the game from the first point, while also having fun involving as many seniors as they could.

“[My highlight from the game] was definitely having the people who have never played before ball out, get better, and just have fun,” said senior Ellis Chamberlin.

Senior Nate Sampson led the team with nine kills throughout the game. The Falcons won the first set comfortably, with a score of 25-14, and continued to outplay the Mustangs in the second set as well, winning 25-21.

Opening up the third set, the Mustangs attempted a comeback. They jumped out to an early 9-6 lead. However, with help from senior Shane Duisenburg’s two consecutive blocks, the Falcons took the third and final set with a score of 25-21.

Senior Charlie Gaebe and Ellis also played important roles in the win with their team, leading three aces. Ellis also led the team with 22 assists and 14 digs.

With this win, the Falcons established themselves as second-seed for MCAL playoffs. The Falcons now prepare for their final MCAL game at Marin Catholic, Tuesday, April 16.

“We will be able to host our first-round playoff game, which most likely will be against Tam, who we beat earlier in the season. We just need to make sure that we don’t make any silly mistakes,” said coach Alex Perelson.
