On Aug. 31, Archie Williams Girls Varsity Volleyball took on Marin Academy in a heated game away from home. The Wildcats and Falcons were evenly matched up and went back and forth throughout all three sets. In the end, MA couldn’t keep up with Archie Williams, and the Falcons sealed another win.

During the first set, the teams kept the game within a three-point difference. The Falcons found themselves down 14-17 due to poor serves and a lack of communication. Despite this, they made a strong comeback with an impressive 11-4 run from being down 16-17, to win the first set 25-21.

“I think our seniors carried their weight, Reese, Lindsey, and Katie did really well,” said Girls Varsity Volleyball head coach Clayton Fraser.

The second set started off strong for the Falcons with a 10-2 lead. The Wildcats battled back and were only down 19-21. After some back and forth points, the second set ultimately ended in a 25-23 victory for the Falcons, thanks to a kill from senior Lindsey Jones.

The Falcons started the third set with a 10-4 lead. After a timeout from the Wildcats, they clawed their way back and tied the set up at 17. The set was tight from that point on, but at the end, the Falcons pulled out with the win 27-25.

“I think we kind of all just got a little not confident and started kind of having bad attitudes that forced us to not play well,” Lindsey said.

Despite the team not playing to their full ability, Lindsey ended the game with 25 kills, and sophomore Ellery Ford had 20 assists.

“In the end, we kind of just took a deep breath and were just as positive as we could be,” Lindsey said.

The Falcons are starting the season with three wins and two straight three-set sweeps. The team hopes to continue their win streak as they start MCAL play in their next game against Terra Linda on Tuesday.
