On Friday, Sept. 26, the Archie Williams varsity girls volleyball team played a home game against Tamalpais High School. Many Archie Williams students showed up to support their team for the high energy game. Though both teams fought hard, the Falcons lost 0-3.
The Falcons won the first serve, but the Hawks quickly gained a seven-point lead over the Falcons. Senior Felicity Brown blocked many incoming hits, earning the Falcons several points and providing great defense. Junior Abigail Morehouse scored an ace and several kills in an effort to keep the Falcons in it, however, the Hawks ultimately won the set with a score of 17-25.

“I think that our passing in the first set was really good, and we had a part in the first set where our energy was strong and we really believed in the game,” sophomore middle Ada Nichols said.
Despite losing the first set, the Falcons fought back with plays from junior outside Lydia Battaglia, who made numerous kills and saves, and sophomore Zoe English, who made many blocks. Head Coach Shayna West called a timeout to strategize after the Hawks built a consistent lead. Ultimately, Tam managed to secure the set with an eight-point advantage, finishing at 18-25.
“Today, [the team] struggled to recover from simple errors. I think we had amazing defensive plays, and they were really great digs and blocks,” West said.
In the third set, Tam earned another early lead. Ada had many great blocks and scored many points from powerful spikes. Senior Alyse Rosen had consistent sets, maintaining energy and staying collected throughout the game.
After a hard game, Tam won the third set, finishing the game with a score of 3-0. West reflects on what the team needs to improve on going forward in the season to be successful.
“Moving forward, we are going to work on our resilience, our energy, and our ability to focus on our team and our playing as a team and not as an individual,” West said.
Although the Falcons lost both games this week, Lydia believes they gained insight they can apply in future games.
“I think this game taught us to stay strong mentally and push through even when we feel like we’re behind,” Lydia said.
Despite the 0-3 loss, the Falcons will continue to work past their losing streak and keep spirits high entering their next game against Redwood High School on Tuesday, Sept. 30. The match will take place at Redwood at 7:00 p.m.
