TUHSD follows the California government’s decision to lift the mask mandate in public schools
On Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m., Tamalpais Union High School District (TUHSD) announced that the current mask mandate requiring all students and staff to wear masks indoors will be lifted on Mar. 14. Detailed in an email sent out by TUHSD, beginning Mar. 14, masks will no longer be required for Tam District staff and students but will be strongly recommended regardless of vaccination status. This decision was a result of the California Department of Public Health’s announcement on Feb. 28 that they would no longer require masks for K-12 schools. California Governor Gavin Newsom told ABC-7 news that the California Department of Public Health is updating its policies after evidence that COVID-19 cases from the Omicron variant are subsiding. This data led to the Governor’s decision to lift the mask mandate state-wide, which is due to take effect on Mar. 12, resulting in TUHSD’s commitment to lifting the mask mandate a couple of days later on Mar. 14.
