Pirates persevere against wildcats
Marin Catholic defeated the Drake varsity boys’ 62-46 on our home court on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Every year, the MC vs. Drake game is one of the most well attended, and this game was no different. Although they lost, the boys put up an intense fight.
The game began with lots of energy; however, as the game progressed, Drake players fell behind. By half time, Drake was 17 points behind with the score being 33-16.
“We came out strong at the start. We seemed to have lost our energy by halftime.” Senior Connor Molloy said.
For the many student fans, the highlight of the game came with sophomore William Heimbrodt’s dunk in the third quarter.
“That play got all of us in the crowd hyped up. The dunk was on our end right in front of the fans. He dunked on my MC friend, which was even better.” Molloy said.
Coach Bret Tovani reflects that the team could have done better with better ball control and overall shooting. On a positive note, the team finished the league and secured a playoff spot, and Tovani thinks the team “is about where we should be.”
“I’ll be there cheering and watching. I grew up watching Drake basketball, and as long as I live close by, I’ll continue supporting Pirate basketball.” Molloy said.
