From Monday, May 19, to Friday, May 23, the Archie Williams Associated Student Body (ASB) put on their spring spirit week. With spirit days such as “Jersey Day,” “Adam Sandler Day,” and “Beach Day,” students had the opportunity to dress up and show their school spirit. This week’s highlights also included a Lip Dub, which is a lip-synched, school spirit-heavy music video, on Wednesday, and a black light rally on Thursday.
On Monday, May 19, spirit week began with “Jersey Day,” where ASB encouraged students to sport their favorite jersey. Falcons also had the chance to spend time on the field during lunch and play Spikeball, cornhole, and other games.
Archie Williams senior Nolan Kriessman took part in Jersey Day by wearing his senior jersey to show off school spirit. Nolan appreciated how the spirit day allowed people to wear jerseys that displayed their varying interests.
“I like Jersey Day because it gives people an opportunity to show off who they are by wearing their favorite sports teams or where they’re going to school through a jersey,” Nolan said. “The seniors also get to show their spirit by wearing their senior jerseys, which is cool.”
Tuesday, May 20, was “Adam Sandler Day,” which called for outfits meant to emulate the style of actor Adam Sandler via different articles of oversized clothing. From wearing basketball shorts to baggy t-shirts to oversized hoodies, Archie Williams students participated in this casual spirit day, further building spirit.
Archie Williams sophomore Sophie Macdonald appreciated “Adam Sandler Day” because it allowed students to wear comfortable baggy clothing.
“I like Adam Sandler Day because it is an easy and comfy spirit day to dress up for, and I love to see everyone’s baggy fits,” Sophie said.
Wednesday, May 21, was a green-out day for the long-awaited Lip Dub. During filming, Archie Williams students lip-synced and cheered as they ran throughout the campus. Different groups from Archie Williams had their own section of the Lip Dub, including sports teams, upperclassman academies, clubs, and more.
This school tradition first began in 2018, and its immediate success inspired ASB to organize another in 2023. Archie Williams senior class president Jasper Cohen, along with senior ASB member Zach Wuff, organized and filmed the Lip Dub. Jasper highlighted why ASB chose to do a Lip Dub this year.
“Our class is the first class to graduate with four full years at Archie Williams High School since the name change, so we wanted to do something special, and decided to do a Lip Dub to show off [our] school spirit,” Jasper said.
This year’s Lip Dub was to the song “The Sweet Escape” by Gwen Stefani. Freshman Taylor Fahy thought the event built school spirit while showcasing the diverse community at Archie Williams.
“I feel like [the Lip Dub] built school spirit because we were all in our little communities with our sports and our clubs, but they all came together through the video,” Taylor said.
Thursday, May 22, was Star Wars-themed; students wore white so the rally’s blacklight feature would illuminate their clothes. The rally featured activities like a true or false game from Peer Resource, a home run derby from girls varsity softball, a lightsaber fight, a game of musical chairs, and a game of finish the lyrics, all in a glow-in-the-dark environment.
Thursday’s rally also included an energetic performance from Dance Troupe, which contributed immensely to the enthusiasm in the gym. Jasper found that this rally was one of the best he’d experienced and that it was full of spirit.
“The rally went great. I love this school so much, and I had so much fun doing the rally. This was the best rally of my high school career, and I loved the energy from the seniors and the whole entire Archie [Williams] community,” Jasper said.
The spirit week concluded Friday, May 23, with students wearing their tropical beach attire for “Beach Day.” Although this spirit week did not take place before prom, as was ASB’s original plan, students still met it with participation and excitement. This was the last spirit week of the 2024-25 school year and helped end the year on a fun and spirited note.
