On Tuesday, Oct. 24, Archie Williams Girls Varsity Volleyball hosted the Piner Prospectors in the first round of NCS. They look to bounce back from their loss to Marin Catholic and start the North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs with a win.

The Prospectors kept up with the Falcons to start, but could not last throughout the set. Senior Lindsey Jones tallied up 6 kills, which led the Falcons into a 16-3 run in the middle of the set. The Falcons carried this kill-streak throughout the set to win 25-12.

The Falcons came out sluggish in the second set, and the Piner Prospectors capitalized, going up 13-18. The Falcons bounced back with a five-point streak to tie the set 18-18. The set was very close but the Falcons managed to pull it out winning 25-22.

Senior Reese Fraser had a lot of skillful passes which led her to have 35 assists. Lindsey also played great with 17 kills. Sophomore Alyse Rosen led the team in digs with eight.

“Our strength was when we could actually pass the ball and play our game. We struggled to stay focused but when we did we easily won,” said coach Lisa Hudson.

The Falcons came out hot in the third set going on a 15-3 run led by Reese. From there the teams were going back and forth but Piner wasn’t able to rally together enough points to win the set. The Falcons ended up closing out the set 25-10.

“We’re playing Terra Linda on Saturday. We have played them twice and beat them both times so I am feeling very confident,” Lindsey said.

The Falcons play their next game at home on Saturday, Oct. 28 against the Terra Linda Trojans. The reigning NCS champs are far from done. Last year they went on a historic run and won their first ever state championship in volleyball. The Falcons are ready to go on another run in the NCS tournament.
