On Oct. 13, Archie Williams girls Varsity volleyball played at Marin Catholic in their final MCAL game. The Falcons needed to pull off a win to secure a spot in the MCAL playoffs. Unfortunately, they were shut out by the Wildcats, losing 0-3.
In the beginning of the first set it was close, leaving the Falcons down 8-9. Later in the set the Wildcats got hot and took over. The Falcons weren’t able to keep up with them, ending the first set 13-25 in favor of the Wildcats.
With the first set not going well for the Falcons, they made adjustments going into the second set. They went from running a 6-2 formation in the first set to a 5-1 rotation. The Falcons noticed an immediate change. The score was neck and neck the whole way through with neither team gaining more than a three-point lead. The Falcons fell short to the Wildcats by just two points with a final score of 26-28.
“We didn’t play our best. We came out in the first set really rough, it started with our passing and went from there. We didn’t match their energy in the first set. We had a great second set. It was very tight. We had a chance to win but we lost. That is a team we know we can play with,” coach Clayton Frasier said.
In the third set, the score was close and both teams were battling but in the middle of the set sophomore Ellery Ford took a hard shot to the face from a spike. She was unable to play and left the game. The Falcons lost almost all hope after that and ended up losing the third set to the Wildcats 18-25.
“I am feeling 100% now with lots of rest. I am fine. I got my last concussion 2 weeks ago and I am not sure if the concussion came back or not so I have to be really cautious and aware if any symptoms arise” Said Ellery Ford the morning after the game.
The season is not over for the Falcons as they have high hopes heading into the North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs. Last year they were able to win the state championship and they are hopeful to have another successful run this season.
“I’m excited for NCS. Hopefully, we get a good seeding. Obviously last year we had a good run. We are hoping to do it again but we will see,” senior Reese Fraser said.
