On Saturday, Oct. 7 the Archie Williams Varsity Football team battled in an away game against the Terra Linda Trojans. The Falcons looked to get their first MCAL win of the season, but took the loss with a final score of 7-41.
The hot weather did not let up, but that didn’t stop the Trojans from starting off strong and quickly gaining possession of the ball from the falcons. The Falcons kept turning over the ball and the Trojans capitalized by putting up two touchdowns in the first quarter. Terra Linda maintained strong defense that the Falcons struggled to break down. However, the Trojans failed to connect on a two-point conversion after their second touchdown making the first quarter score 0-13.
In the second quarter, the Falcons started to pick up some speed. Senior defensive end Peter Irwin made several good tackles and senior receiver Nicholas Lillevand made a great catch. But as the Falcons gained momentum, Trojans cut their flight path by scoring two more touchdowns, extending their lead and ending the half up 0-27.
“I think we’re really having struggles with tackling right now, coming up and breaking down, and being in the position to make the tackle,” said Falcons coach Jason Revelle.
Terra Linda continued to pressure the Falcons defense in the second half, scoring another touchdown in the third quarter. Despite being down, the Falcons were able to connect to score their first and only touchdown of the game. Senior tight end Hudson Lofrano scored the touchdown for Archie Williams, and Nicholas kicked the extra point to end the third quarter with the score 7-34.
The fourth quarter did not see anything new, with the Trojans being the dominant force over the Falcons. Terra Linda would score the final touchdown of the game, making the final score 7-41. The Falcons played hard despite the 90-degree weather beating down on them throughout the entire time they were on the field.
“I think the heat only affected our mindsets, but we were doing perfectly fine being active in the heat,” said junior center Will Simkins.
The Falcons will play their next game on their home field against Marin Catholic (MC) Saturday, Oct. 14. They still hope for their first win of the MCAL season.
“I think we need more intense practices, and we just have to play better as a team, and it’ll all come together. I think we got MC next week. and then the rest of the season is ours,” Nicholas said.
