On Sept. 30, Archie Williams Varsity Football played their first home game of the season against the Tamalpais Hawks. The game was an offensive shootout with 93 total points of offense. The Falcons ended up falling short 30-63.

The Hawks started strong with a rushing touchdown up the middle to make the score 0-7. However, the Falcons responded quickly after converting two fourth downs to set up a rushing touchdown to junior Tony Rojas. The Falcons and Hawks were neck-and-neck in the first quarter, with the score at 14-14. The Hawks continued to show strong offense and dominated the second quarter by scoring two more touchdowns to extend their lead to 14-28. The Falcons struggled to score any touchdowns for the remainder of the half, due to strong defense from the Hawks. But, senior wide receiver Nicholas Lillevand managed to knock down a 34-yard field goal to end the half down 17-35.

“I think we could’ve played better. We struggled to be consistent, and we made a couple too many mistakes, and that is why we lost. Our offense played well, our guys kept playing and never quit. Our problem was our pass coverage and our tackling,” said Falcons coach Jason Revelle

Despite the rain, neither team let it affect them and the game continued. The Hawks stayed dominant by scoring two consecutive touchdowns and further extending their lead to 17-49. Due to strong and tough defense from the Hawks, the Falcons were struggling to advance the ball, but eventually scored once more to make the score 24-49. The Falcons rallied their first defensive stop of the game, which put their offense in a great field position. As the Falcons stormed up the field, they had back-to-back passing plays, which set up Tony for his third rushing touchdown of the game and further closing the gap between the scores to 30-49. Unfortunately, this would not be enough as the Hawks would be a dominant offensive force and extend their lead to 30-63 until the end of the game. “We let up 63 points, which is never fun. I think our defense needs to pick it up, but we put up 30 on them [Tamalpais.] I mean, other teams have not done that, and I think we should be proud of that as a team,” Nicholas said.

The Falcons’ passing leader, Sam Black threw for just under 300 yards and one touchdown. Tony led the rushing game with three touchdowns and over 50 yards. Nicholas was a dominant receiver for the Falcons with over 150 receiving yards and one touchdown. “Getting three touchdowns was lit. We went out there, and executed, and made it happen,” Tony said.

The Falcons fell to 0-2 in MCAL. They play their next game at Terra Linda High School versus the Trojans. They look to bounce back and get their first win of the MCAL season.
