Wednesday, Aug. 30, Archie Williams Girls Varsity Volleyball had a game in their home nest against the Tamalpais High School Hawks  The Falcons were scavenging for their  first league win of the season (MCAL). This battle of the birds has come out to be a dog fight in the past, but this time, the Hawks came soaring to victory.

At this time last year, the game between the Hawks and the Falcons was a cliffhanger, ending in a 3-2 win favoring the Hawks. However, in this game, Tam dominated each of the sets winning 3-0.

“We didn’t really pass the ball at all. Our passing was not there, so we couldn’t really get our offense going,” said Archie Williams head coach Lisa Hudson.

In the first set, both teams went back and forth scoring point after point until the Hawks went on a commanding 7-1 run to win the set 25-16. The second set, the closest of them all, was a great performance by both teams with the set being tied up six different times, though Tam took this one again with a 25-20 set score win. The third set showed the depth of the Hawks scoring at will with a commanding 25-5 set and game victory.

Although this loss for the Falcons seems to be filled with nothing but heartbreak, good also came out of it. The sophomores demonstrated their young and bright talent, with Ellery Ford leading the team in assists with 11, and Alyse Rosen leading the team in digs with 8. Senior Captain Lindsey Jones showed her leadership and led the team in kills with 12 and had a good game in the middle with 7 digs.

“I think I put too much pressure on myself,” Lindsey said. “I need to calm down on the court and bring other people up and then I can bring myself up.”

Senior and star defensive specialist Amelia Richer has been dealing with a knee injury because of a fall that happened in warm-ups Sept. 5.  She seems to be recovering well, cheering on her teammates on the sideline.

“I’ve made so much progress in just a week. I think I will be back playing right before playoffs or even sooner,” Amelia said.

Archie Williams looks to bounce back at their game Sep. 20 against the Novato Hornets at their beehive.
