Water main break on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. causes street and residential flooding
At approximately 9 a.m on Thursday morning, a water main break near the corner of Sir Francis Drake Blvd. and Broadmoor Ave. caused temporary street and residential flooding. Workers from the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) arrived promptly to assess damages and drain the damaged pipe.
Scott Schneider, the Assistant Public Works Director for the town of San Anselmo, believes it will not take long to fully drain the damaged pipe. However, it will take longer to repair it, which may lead to traffic issues and lane closures for the rest of the day.
“Hopefully MMWD can make their repairs throughout the afternoon and evening, and tomorrow we hope to have at least one lane in each direction open if not both,” Schneider said.
Although there has been minor flooding in the front yards of houses near the water break, Schneider believes that there have not yet been any cases of flooding inside homes. Schneider is doubtful that flooding will hinder AWHS class schedules or lead to any school closures but says that students may be late to class or may have trouble leaving campus when school ends.
In an email to the AWHS community, Assistant Principal Nate Severin said that although students cannot drive on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. During the lunch period, students are allowed to walk to Red Hill if they please. School administration will continue to update the AWHS community with updates from the Central Marin Police Department throughout the rest of the day.
