Even though girls varsity field hockey is a new sport here, the team aims to become a prominent one. Currently, the team has grown from seven members to 20 and is coached by Jamie
Hoffman.

“The team became an actual team last year, but this year we are actually playing against other schools. I joined the team after hearing about it over the summer, and I thought I should try it out,” junior Adelina Merrell said.

Despite losing against Lick-Wilmerding and Redwood, the team hopes to achieve its first win. Last year, the team wasn’t an official school sport here, but was at Redwood.

“There were talks of girls field hockey becoming an official team last year, but there wasn’t enough interest,” assistant athletic director Tyler Peterson said. “This year, however, we have an increasing interest in field hockey, so we were able to kickstart a team.”

The greatest strength of the team is their ability to bond together despite being different ages.
Even so the members hope to improve communication and become closer as a group.
“I joined field hockey because I wanted to improve my skills, learn to be a leader, and meet new people,” junior Sylvia Potovsky said.

The team has upcoming games against a variety of schools including Marin Catholic on Oct. 16 and Tamalpais on Oct. 18; they will participate in MCALs on Oct. 23 and 25.
