On Feb. 26, the Archie Williams boys varsity lacrosse team took on Bay High School for their first pre-season game of the year. Despite last year’s winless season, the Falcons boys lacrosse team took home their first win in three years. They dominated Bay with a final score of 9-2, building up excitement for this year’s new players and first full team.

Archie Williams completely overtook the first half of the game, putting four goals on the board early due to their relentless offense. Along with their impressive offense, the Falcons’ defense held their own, not allowing a single point the entire first half and starting the game with a lead of 4-0.

“We had some fantastic midfielders. They did a great job keeping [the ball] on the other side to help the offense really start to thrive,” said freshman defender Gauge Sherlock.

In the second half, Bay attempted to mount a comeback, but their efforts fell short due to the strength of Archie Williams’ resilient defense and overwhelming offense with the help of freshman Jack Paler and senior Lincoln Tithof.

“[Bay] didn’t have as many players, but we all played really tough to earn this win. However, I think we need to work on our spacing. We all got pushed out too much, and we had left too many open goals, but we played very strong today,” said sophomore defender James Bolland.

Bay’s final chances left them with only two goals during the whole game, which finished with a score of 9-2 in the Falcons’ favor. This win for Archie Williams spiked joy for the players, as compared to last year, the boys varsity lacrosse team has experienced a large influx of newer players.

“I think we played exceptionally well, especially considering for many of them it was their first ever time even playing a lacrosse game. I think team synergy is something that they are learning. It definitely increased today compared to what’s been seen in practice,” said Archie Williams coach Brandon Carney.

The Falcons look to continue with their starting momentum as they take on Stuart Hall High School Thursday, Feb. 27, at their home field.
