Valentine’s Day is nearly here again, one of the few days of the year where it is socially acceptable to eat an excessive amount of chocolate. From your local CVS to See’s Candies, chocolate is a universal symbol of happiness. The shelves upon shelves of different flavors, brands, and consistencies can be daunting, especially if you need a last minute gift for a friend, a partner, or a family member, so we’ve compiled a list of some of the best chocolates out there.

4: Lake Champlain Celebration Heart Box

The Good Earth Lake Champlain Celebration Heart Box contains six chocolates: A milk chocolate filled with all natural peanut butter, several varieties of caramel, some dark chocolate flavors, and lastly, there was a milk and dark chocolate heart.

This box of chocolates is a healthier option for people who look for cleaner ingredient alternatives, but it was slightly disappointing tastewise. As expected, this box doesn’t taste like the traditional drugstore chocolates most of us are used to, as the flavors are not as sweet as normal chocolate and the box was pricier than other alternatives at 22 dollars. The caramel wasn’t as flavored with a strong salty taste, earning this box two and a half out of five feathers.

3: Ghirardelli Hearts Caramel Milk Chocolate

From the shelves of CVS, this bag of chocolates contains thin heart-shaped milk chocolates filled with caramel. The bag contained 13 individually wrapped chocolates, at a reasonable price of 7.99 dollars. The chocolate formed two hearts with intricate designs and had the perfect caramel stretch when bitten into.

The flavor was exactly what one would expect from this drugstore pack of chocolates, and overall had a pleasing taste. Although there are many other chocolates that cost around the same price and are overall better quality, this bag would still have anyone reaching for it again. The caramel was sweet and buttery, and the chocolate was smooth but definitely on the sweeter side, earning these chocolates three and a half out of five feathers.

2: Lindor Irresistibly Smooth Assorted Chocolate Truffles

One of the most popular chocolate brands, this bag contained varieties of milk, dark, and white chocolate. Lindor is a good simple choice, with the small round chocolates filled with a luscious, smooth, rich chocolatey center that melts in your mouth, priced at 13.99 dollars.

The chocolate truffles, whether white or dark, all taste like gooey perfection, and can melt quite quickly if left out in the sun, or anywhere, for too long. Lindor is a perfect gift for any chocolate lover this Valentines Day, earning it four out of five feathers.

1: See’s Candies Many With Love Heart

Like most pre-made See’s Candies boxes, this heart-shaped container displays many varieties of chocolate. This box contains two Milk Molasses Chips, one Milk California Brittle, one Milk Buttercream, one Raspberry Truffle, one Milk Bordeaux, one Dark Butterchew, and one Milk Almond Caramel. See’s Candies offers some of the highest quality chocolates, with wide varieties in taste and texture earning it the number one spot with a price of 13.25 dollars.

The flavors of all the chocolates are rich and tasteful, satisfying any chocolate craving. With the many different flavors come a chance of a flavor one could dislike. Raspberry is an acquired taste, along with nutty chocolates, which can give the mystery box of chocolates either a good or bad surprise, depending on chocolate preference. Overall, the chocolate tasted high-quality and rich in flavor, earning the box a four and a half out of five feathers.
