As Archie Williams’ fall sports conclude for the 2024 season, the student teams leave having worked towards many respective accomplishments. The Falcon athletes made the school community proud with hard work and dedication throughout the season, leaving their mark with high rankings.

The girls varsity volleyball team faced challenges during the 2024-25 season, going 2-18. However, head coach Lisa Hudson has high hopes for next year, when the team will have many returning players.

“It was a growth season, and I was really proud of all the girls who came out and played and grew. It was a great season for us, a different season, going from state champions in 2022, to Northern California finals in 2023, to going seventh in league this year,” Hudson said.

The girls varsity cross country team had a successful season this year despite competing with a young team lacking in seniors. They placed third in the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) and won the Division IIII North Coast Section (NCS) championships despite muddy conditions. Junior Ani Steig received the award for the MCAL runner of the year after she won the county championship at Indian Valley College.

The team then advanced to compete for the Division IIII state championship but fell short, coming in seventh place.

“It was awesome to see our top seven runners all in the top 30, and everyone will be returning next year,” said head coach Josiah Russell.  “I think this team, this culture, is family, and we are one big group.”

The girls varsity tennis team had an eventful and positive season centered around team connection. They ended up finishing seventh in their competitive league and have high hopes for next season. Despite few wins during the season, head coach Haden Ongaro admired the team’s unity.

“They were all super close. Everybody got along super well. In the past two seasons, it’s been the closest I’ve seen people on the team,” Ongaro said.

The Archie Williams girls varsity field hockey team had a challenging 2024-25 season, finishing with a record of 0-18. Despite their record, the team remained close-knit with strong friendships between players.

Archie Williams’ boys varsity cross country team found success this year, competing for the state championship. They ended the regular season second in MCAL and qualified for a spot in NCS. The Falcons won the NCS race and then proceeded to compete for the Division IIII state championship, placing sixth overall.

The varsity boys football team showed growth and strength throughout the season, ending the season on a positive note. Battling through injuries throughout the season, they still ended up with impactful players, including senior Lincoln Tithof and juniors Jagger Yarbrough and Jackson Gaunt making first-team all-league, and senior Isaac Pierce and junior Finn Starsiak making second-team. They ended the season with a record of 4-6 overall, putting them fifth in the Redwood Empire Mountain league.

The girls varsity golf team made the Falcon community proud this year, as they found their rhythm through hard work and having a great attitude. The golf team was welcoming, and the athletes took away valuable lessons from the coaches.

“The biggest success with the team this season was how we were able to build a community within our team and other teams in our district. We always kept a positive attitude and encouraged each other to try our best,” said junior Mirabelle Davis.

The girls varsity water polo team found incredible success this year, battling through many competitive games and making it far in various tournaments. They went into the MCAL championship ranked first, going 9-0 in the league, but lost to Redwood High School in the final. They then moved on to the NCS tournament, advancing to the semi-finals after winning their first two games comfortably, but lost their next game, which ended their season. Their final record ended up at  21-6, ranked 19th in the state, and 25th in the country.

The boys’ varsity water polo team, much like the girls’ team, thrived this season, destroying the competition in Marin. They cruised through the MCAL season, finishing 11-0 in the league and beating Redwood in the final 11-8, and Senior Jacob Carrera was the MCAL player of the year. Their incredible record throughout the season awarded them with a spot in the open division for NCS, but they lost in the first round to Miramonte High School, ending their season with a heartbreak. Their record at the end of the season was 22-6, ranked 26th in the state and 28th in the country.
