On Friday, Sept. 27, Archie Williams Associated Student Body (ASB) held a schoolwide Homecoming spirit rally at 10:30 a.m. in the Carl “Red Brown” Gym. Students showed immense school spirit in their sections organized by grade level. The rally featured performances from a variety of varsity sports teams, a trivia game from Peer Resource, and a routine from Dance Troupe.
For the second rally of the year, students wore designated class colors, with frosh in green, sophomores in blue, juniors in white, and seniors celebrating their final Homecoming rally in pink. ASB decorated the gym with color-coded sections and streamers, showing the amount of time and effort they put into the event.
For ASB members, piecing these rallies together takes a significant amount of preparation and cooperation. Junior ASB member Stephenie Villeda helped orchestrate the Homecoming rally.
“[In order to set up everything,] it took one hour and 45 minutes. We got here at 8 a.m. this morning,” Stephenie said.
The rally kicked off with Senior Class President Caroline Lozaw and Vice President Donovan Traub running out to the ABBA song “Dancing Queen,” inspired by this year’s Homecoming theme, Mamma Mia. The two senior emcees raised the energy in the gym before introducing a crowd favorite, the Archie Williams Dance Troupe.
Upon Caroline and Donovan’s announcement, Dance Troupe ran out and got into
formation for their 2024-25 school year debut. After the performance, junior Dance Troupe member Adria Losa felt thrilled about her team’s work and believes their routine was a high-spirited success.
“I think that we did very, very well. We were in sync, and we went out there and gave our best,” Adria said.
As the rally progressed, Archie Williams Peer Resource (PR) led an activity where they brought out students from each grade to play a trivia game. The questions all focused on the meaning of consent and other harm reduction topics.
In addition to the segments from Peer Resource and Dance Troupe, four sports teams exhibited their school spirit by performing dances at the rally. Girls varsity water polo started it off with a country-themed dance, followed by girls varsity volleyball, girls varsity tennis, and varsity girls cross country.
Towards the end of the rally, senior Jordan Oliver Roa ran out with the Archie Williams spirit can and plenty of energy. He went around to each grade, picking up the tempo and boosting morale. Junior Chase Unger appreciated and enjoyed the high energy of the rally.
“I honestly thought [the rally] was a lot more hype today. At some of the rallies, especially the freshmen and sophomores, don’t get as excited, but I feel like the energy was great today,” Chase said.
The rally concluded with a schoolwide “Falcon Chant,” sending students back to class with anticipation of a fun Homecoming dance. ASB members and students alike now prepare for their next rally, expected to be sometime before Winter Formal.
