2025 has been nothing short of an eventful year, and with October 31 falling on a Friday, Halloween spirits are high. As the holiday approaches, the great costume debate continues, and I am here to give my two cents. Every year, there is an influx of costumes ranging from incredibly basic to extremely creative and elaborate.
My favorite category of Halloween costumes, however, is those that reference significant popular culture moments from throughout the year. Here are some predictions for the biggest chronically online costumes this Halloween, featuring my honest opinions that nobody asked for.
Sabrina Carpenter:
Her classic bodysuit blowout combo is set to be big this year. Extravagant and sparkly, I am excited to see some impressive homemade renditions of her tour outfits.
Taylor Swift Showgirls:
If there is one thing Taylor’s Life of a Showgirl album did do, it reminded an internet-obsessed generation of a lost aesthetic. I hope to see some bold and flashy showgirls this year, and I think this would make a great group costume.
Chappell Roan:
Considering all her viral looks this year, every day is Halloween for Chappell Roan. These costumes will either be incredibly elaborate or extremely last-minute – there’s no in-between.
The Kendrick Lamar Halftime Show:
Kendrick did say “They Not Like Us,” but it seems you and the other five people at the party in flare jeans and varsity jackets missed the point. Still a pretty fun costume though.
Superman:
In light of the latest Superman movie, I expect not only to see several Supermans, but also the resurgence of other popular heroes. Nightwing, The Flash, and Wonder Woman, just to name a few. There is nothing wrong with a classic that screams Halloween!
Victoria’s Secret Angels:
With the relevance of the 2025 Victoria’s Secret Fashion show, I expect to see more than just angels and devils this year. As a group or alone, Halloween is the perfect time to get runway-ready.
Labubus:
If your goal was to wear a scary costume, then congratulations, you got me spooked. Your costume may even be cheaper than an actual Labubu.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift:
This feels like a healthy compromise costume for a couple where one person can go all out and the other can get away with wearing a football jersey. If millennial excellence is the theme that you’re going for, this option hits the mark while being easy to assemble.
Louvre Heisters:
This is gold. Literally. The Louvre could not have been robbed at a better time. Throw in some old school detectives, and I think you’ve got a solid costume.
The Coldplay Concert Couple:
This costume is perfect for adults who spent all of their money on their kids’ costumes and now need an easy-to-assemble outfit. It is sure to give the other trick-or-treating parents a good laugh, but it’s too bad every other couple on the block had the same idea.
Justin Bieber “standing on business”:
Do I think you are basic? Yes. Do I think you are funny? A little bit. A group costume could be a nice take on this meme, but you don’t have to tell me that you put off your Halloween costume until the last minute.
My predictions and opinions aside, no costume should be taken too seriously. Halloween is such a great opportunity to express creativity, and any effort put into dressing up is sure to make for a fun night. Whether you waited until the last minute or have been planning your costume for months, there are many amazing options for your spooky festivities this year.
